My kids are now almost 16, 14 & 12 & you can imagine the “stuff” that get’s accumulated!
We are working hard at de-cluttering & trying to determine, "Is this really a NEED or is it GREED?"
We each have an ongoing list of predetermined items that we need to purchase. When we are out at the mall or store & one of us see's something we want to buy, I automatically ask, "Is it on the list?" If not, it help's us all to realize how often we get caught up on impulse buying & how often we really don't even need it.
Is this NEED or GREED?
Here are some questions we try to ask ourselves before buying:
1. Is this a need or want?
2. How will this make me happy?
3. Will it become outdated quickly?
4. How long will I use It for?
5. What will I do with It when I’m done with it?
6. What will it be worth then?
7. Why do I want it?
· Impulse buy – I saw it, then wanted it?
· Friends have it, so I want it?
· Need for acceptance or approval?
· Saw it on T.V., Video, Instagram, Pinterest?
· FOMO - fear of missing out?
· Fear that it will sell out & I won’t get it?
· Fear that others will have more or get ahead?
· It's on sale!
· Hungry? (Mine would eat out all the time!)
8. Do I/we have room for it?
9. Do I need it immediately?
10. How long will it take me to earn the money to pay for it? I'm often amused by how often they change their mind about it when they have to pay for it!
